Nestled in the picturesque Entre-Deux-Mers region of Bordeaux, France, Château Mongiron stands as a testament to the area's deep-rooted winemaking tradition. Located between the Garonne and Dordogne rivers, our vineyard enjoys a unique wedge-shaped geography that has been nurturing vines for over two millennia. This region is not only one of the oldest wine-producing areas in France but also boasts the largest vineyard area in Bordeaux.
Adjacent to the charming town of Nérigean, Château Mongiron benefits from the historical and spiritual heritage of the Grand-Sauve Abbey, established in the 12th century. Today, from the heart of our vineyard, the distant view of the church and the sound of its blessing bells continue to resonate, enveloping Mongiron in a serene and sacred ambiance.
The name Mongiron signifies the embrace and safety of a mother’s arms. This land, endowed with such a tender name, has consistently provided nourishment and protection to life, from its earliest days as an ancient sea to its current era of chalky vineyards, perpetuating the cycle of life.
Positioned on a small elevation between the rivers, the vineyard's deep soil is underlain by a massive limestone bedrock, the accumulation of marine life sediments over thousands of years. As seas gave way to land, the remnants of past lives buried deep beneath the earth's surface continue to bear witness to the unending cycle of existence.
Château Mongiron embraces modern winemaking techniques with a traditional touch. Our fermentation process utilizes stainless steel tanks of various volumes to cater to grapes from different parcels, ensuring precise temperature control and fermentation progress. Additionally, we employ egg-shaped concrete tanks favored for their insulation properties and unique dynamic circulation system, enhancing the roundness of our wines. The white wines, in particular, benefit from fermentation in some of these concrete tanks, resulting in a more intense and diverse flavor profile.
In an era leaning towards industrial production, Mongiron proudly upholds a tradition of manual craftsmanship, preserving the authentic character of our terroir and crafting wines with a personal touch.
Our wines mature in French oak barrels from five major brands, each selected for its ability to enhance the wine’s aromatic complexity and depth. These brands include Sylvain, Seguin Moreau, Éclat de Vinéa, Rémond, and Ermitage, each contributing distinctively to the development of our red and white wines.
Our vines, aged between 10 to 15 years, flourish in this prime terroir, producing a rich variety of grapes. Red varietals include Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Sauvignon, while our whites comprise Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, and Sauvignon Gris.
Château Mongiron is a natural masterpiece, its excellent calcareous soil, climate, and geographical location laying the foundation for premium winemaking. Geographers have noted similarities between our elevation and soil structure and those of Chateau Troplong Mondot, promising endless possibilities for extraordinary wines.
Our respect for nature is matched by our dedication to craftsmanship. Winemaker Guillaume and his team blend tradition with new technologies to enhance our winemaking process. The diversity of oak barrels in our cellar speaks to our meticulous approach to matching grape varietals with the ideal wood, ensuring each wine's unique expression.
Château Mongiron's wines have garnered high praise from critics and wine institutions alike, with renowned critic Robert Parker recognizing our efforts as representative of Bordeaux's finest. The 2018 Mongiron vintage notably achieved a gold medal with a 95-point rating from Decanter.
Thanks to our exceptional wine quality, numerous prestigious institutions have chosen Mongiron as their official wine, deepening our partnerships with luxury hotels and clubs worldwide, including the legendary Swiss family hotels, the magnificent Hotel Glorious, and the Hong Kong Jockey Club.
